About this blog
I already have two sites, two online photo albums, and some disk space. This blog focuses on two (edit: three) things: 1) The Japanese I encounter in Finland and 2) dance and pedagogy and 3) some gender issues.
I might as well make my life into an experiment, as these things happen whether I want them to or not. By “things” I mean situations where what people in general percieve as womanhood becomes underlined, especially in an unwanted, unsolicited way, or where I almost wish I were something usually percieved as “man.”
I have written about Japanese stuff in English on my Japanese home page and about slightly different Japanese things in Finnish. Also about dance there is a section in Finnish.
Some people have criticized the fact that I have combined all these seemingly unrelated topics into the same blog. In my life Japan, gender, dance, and pedagogy are interrelated, and because of their intersections I justify the coexistence of these topics in the same blog. And why a blog? Because it is an easy way for gathering “evidence”, that is, scientific researh data to illustrate some points I might want to make based on similar experiences, some documented, some not, but alltogether risen from the sociological imagination (C. Wright Mills, 1959).
